Registration Guidelines

The Registration system offers you the opportunity to register for the congress, and purchase tickets for social events and post-congress workshops if you wish to do so.

To register for the congress, you are required to create an account on the website, so that we can keep track of all your purchases and send you your tickets. If you are an IFA member you already have an account on the website. If you are not an IFA member, the registration process will guide you to create a website account but you are not required to join the IFA (unless you wish to do so).

Delegate fees are displayed in Japanese yen with the approximate equivalent value in US dollars also visible. At the point of checkout the system will convert the yen value to dollars (using daily exchange rates from the European Central Bank). Payments can then be made in US dollars via Paypal and the system will guide you through the process. Please note that you do not need a Paypal account to pay via Paypal, just a debit or credit card.

You will receive an email confirmation for each registration or event that you book, and the email acts as your ticket. It can take several hours for all of the confirmations to process, but please check your confirmation emails and contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Bursaries offered via the IFA

PLEASE NOTE: THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR  JUNIOR RESEARCHER, TRAVEL AND STUDENT BURSARIES OFFERED VIA THE IFA HAS NOW PASSED. NO FURTHER APPLICATIONS FOR THESE BURSARIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

THE IFA BOARD ARE CURRENTLY REVIEWING THE APPLICATIONS. APPLICANTS WILL BE INFORMED OF THE OUTCOME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Delegates meeting the relevant criteria may apply for financial support to assist with costs of congress fees or associated travel costs. In addition to underwriting the congress, and being one of the headline sponsors for the event, the IFA is offering three types of bursary, as outlined below.

The Japanese Society of Stuttering and Other Fluency Disorders (JSSFD) is also offering some discounted student places for the World Congress. To qualify for one of these places, you must be a student member of the JSSFD. Details about these discounts and application details for the JSSFD student bursaries can be found on the Japanese language 'Bursaries and Financial Support' page of the website.

To qualify for any of the IFA bursaries, applicants should be either full or student members of the IFA (member categories with voting rights) and have a presentation accepted for inclusion in the congress program. A willingness to join one of the IFA’s Committees is appreciated. Committee involvement is likely to involve participation in email discussions and the occasional Skype meeting.

To access the application form, applicants need to log onto their account. If you do not have a current IFA membership you will have to purchase one before accessing the application.

The deadline for receipt of bursary applications is 31st March 2018.

Members of the IFA Executive Board will review all applications received within the deadline and inform recipients whether they have been successful and the value of any bursaries granted.

Junior researchers

The IFA has obtained a grant from the US National Institutes of Health (NIDCD) under the auspices of the University of Maryland, USA, for funds to support US and international PhD students and junior faculty travel to the Congress. Recipients must be authors of accepted Congress proposals, and are obliged to attend the two sponsored congress sessions on improving grantsmanship and publication skills. Stipends will average from roughly $1500 - $3000, and stipend recipients will receive a congress registration waiver.

Students must be in a communication sciences or related field degree program, verified by an advisor's signature. Junior faculty are defined as those not holding tenure or its equivalent at a University. Post-doctoral researchers are also eligible to apply for support.

It is anticipated that the application process will be competitive, and funds are limited.

If you are a junior researcher and meet the criteria outlined above, please apply using the bursary application form by 31st March 2018 at the latest. Please complete the forms fully.

We will notify applicants as soon as possible of their status as funding recipients following review of applications, and will of course endeavor to make payments to recipients at the earliest possible time. However, it can take time to generate checks from the UM, and applicants may wish to make earlier and undoubtedly cheaper flight or hotel arrangements in advance and use awarded funds as reimbursement.

Travel bursaries

A limited number of bursaries to assist with the financial costs of travel are being offered.

If you are an IFA member, and have had a presentation accepted for inclusion in the congress program, you can apply for a travel bursary using the bursary application form.

Discounted congress fee for students ($60 for 4-day congress pass)

Eligible students are IFA members who are matriculated into a degree program (e.g., BA, MA, doctorate) in communication disorders or closely-related discipline.
