I am a Speech Language Pathologist from Pune, India. I have recently received my doctoral degree in Speech Language Pathology, specifically the area of fluency disorders.

Over the past 10 years, I have tried contributing to clinical, research and community work in the area of fluency disorders- both stuttering and cluttering.

Some of my work includes running self- help groups for persons with stuttering, speaking on radio broadcasts in local Indian languages to spread awareness of stuttering and cluttering, completing basic and advanced certificate courses in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and applying REBT principles in the stuttering clinic, and contructing an Impact Scale for Assessment of Cluttering and Stuttering (ISACS).

The ISACS is currently being validated in different provinces of India, owing to the diversity in languages and cultures across the country.

In India, speech language pathologists face a number of roadblocks in their efforts, owing to the low clinician to client ratio, lack of funds, and speech problems not being given a high priority in developing countries, especially rural areas. Despite this, India is now managing to make steady progress in research and public education about fluency disorders.
